Tota lake





Lake Tota is a body of natural water located in the department of Boyaca, Colombia, in the jurisdiction of the municipalities of Cuitiva, Tota and Aquitaine. It is located 34km south of Sogamoso, approximately 200km northwest of Bogota.






With an area close to 55 km² it is the largest lake in Colombia, and after the Titicaca it is the second highest navigable lake in South America, being located 3,015 m s. n. m.



According to the Agustín Codazzi Geographic Institute, the soils of the Lake Tota hydrographic basin are among the most productive and agriculturally capable in Colombia. That region generates approximately 80 percent of the country's total onion production.



WHITE BEACH





In the southwestern part of the lake, in the White Bay there is a natural beach frequented by bathers and water sports enthusiasts despite the low temperature that usually does not exceed 12 ° C. Due to its atypical location, 3,015 meters above sea level on a body of fresh water has become a tourist destination in the center of the country.





Playa Blanca, also known as Boyacá Beach is a natural beach located in the Bahía Blanca around the southwestern coast of Lake Tota in the department of Boyacá (Colombia). 

Geographically, the place is located on the village of La Puerta in the municipality of Tota, although its main access is through Perimetral del Lago Avenue through the municipality of Aquitaine, which is only 12 km away. It is the highest of the beaches in the northern hemisphere, and one of the highest in the world, located 3015 meters above sea level. 


It is one of the main tourist sites of the department and is located in an important forest reserve. It is 111 km from Tunja and 240 km from Bogotá.
